The Biden Immigration Bill.
Our new president submitted a bill to congress that proposes sweeping reforms to our current immigration system. If passed, it will be good news to a great many immigrants including those that are in the United States undocumented.
Some of the key points are as follows.
– IF you have been living in the United States unlawfully since January 1, 2021you will be able to apply for temporary status and get a green card after five years. You will need to pass background checks and pay your taxes, and then you can apply for citizenship three years later.
– Those that have DACA right now would be able to apply for a green card immediately. After three years they will be eligible for citizenship.
-Biden’s plan would even allow some people that were deported during Trump’s presidency to return to the United States.
-It will further get rid of multi-year bans that some immigrants face for being in the United States unlawfully and then departing.
This bill attempts to do even more than I have explained. Keep in mind that it is not law yet. If you have any questions, give us a call.
